CATAPULT Highlighted at the 2026 Meeting of Organisations in Formal Relations with ICRP
On 30 May 2026, the CATAPULT project was presented at the 2026 Meeting of Organisations in Formal Relations with the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP), held in Liverpool, United Kingdom.
During the meeting, CATAPULT partner Tanja Perko (SCK CEN) participated in her role as a representative of the SHARE (Social Sciences and Humanities in Ionising Radiation Research) platform. In her presentation, she highlighted the important contribution of social sciences and humanities to the sustainability of radiation protection, emphasizing the need to better understand societal, ethical, governance, and communication dimensions of radiological challenges.
The CATAPULT project was presented as a practical example of how interdisciplinary research can support the responsible development and deployment of innovative nuclear technologies. In particular, the project’s work on stakeholder engagement and public participation in Environmental Impact Assessment for Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) was used to illustrate how social science insights can contribute to sustainable decision-making processes.
The meeting provided an important opportunity to showcase CATAPULT’s ongoing research to the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) which is the leading international organization providing scientific recommendations and guidance for protecting people and the environment from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation.
